Our 81st season is winding down, but the fall colors are just getting started. For resort staff, autumn is a chance to slow down and really appreciate the spectacular beauty of Lake Vermilion. The intense reds and yellows of northern Minnesota’s maple and birch make it a perfect destination for the fall color chaser. Even the tamaracks, which lose their needles in the winter, turn a vibrant gold among the evergreens.

Southshore Colors

Our north shore cabins have long been known as some of the best for taking in the fall colors, whether from high above the water on Bayside’s deck, in front of the fireplace in Norway’s sunset room, or even from the Northshore cabin’s lakeview whirlpool bath. The north shore also includes a rustic hiking trail that highlights the best of the Vermilion’s fall colors.

Lake Vermilion, which is bustling with families throughout the height of summer, quiets this time of year. Guests of the resort enjoy testing the waters for walleye, northern, and muskie, and our fishing package is a popular option, including both lodging and a boat and motor. Our resident fisherman, Michael, is available for advice and even gear demos in the tackle shop.

Hod and Fox

Looking for a romantic getaway? Our Autumn Fireside Romance package includes lodging, boat, wine, massages, and dinner at a local restaurant. Our secluded Northshore and Bayside cabins are favorites for couples looking to get away from it all. No matter which cabin you choose, you’ll have a wood-burning fireplace with firewood delivered daily.

You might also choose to join us for our Autumn Guest Chef Dinner with Chef Jake Uttich. The evening starts with a champagne reception with hors d'oeuvres and a cooking demonstration, then moves to the dining room for a 5-course seafood dinner with wine pairings. Our peak season for fall colors begins mid-September and lasts through the close of our season in early October, which means there’s still time to reserve your cabin!
