Set Sail on Lake Vermilion

Your stay at Ludlow's includes all of the watercraft you could ever desire. Kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, paddle boats, and hydrobikes are all at your disposal, making it easy for everyone to pick their preferred way to get out on the water and explore the beautiful bays and islands on Lake Vermilion.

Our pontoon rentals are also a favorite. Great for big groups, you can gather everyone on board for a laid-back brunch cruise or pack a charcuterie spread for a sunset pontoon ride. Fishing boats and Hurricane Deck Boats are also available to rent if that better fits your group's style.

Treat Yourself at the Woodland Spa

What's a girls' getaway without a little pampering? Book a session at our Woodland Spa — a cozy, inviting wooden cabin tucked among the trees — and get ready to just… relax. Choose a 50-minute Relaxation Massage or, if you need a little extra, go for a 50-minute Deep Tissue Massage. You won't regret it.

After your massage, meet up with the rest of your group in our Finnish sauna. Rooted in the Vermilion area's strong Finnish heritage, this traditional dry sauna is typically kept between 175 and 210 degrees — the perfect spot to break a sweat, swap stories, and unwind together.

Hit the Trails

The great news is you can lace up and explore scenic hiking trails without ever leaving the resort. We have about two miles of trails on the north shore — the perfect place to reconnect with nature, soak in beautiful views, and catch glimpses of native wildlife.

Nearby Trails Worth Exploring

If you'd like to venture out, there's plenty to choose from. Big Aspen Recreation Area offers 21 miles of scenic trails with tons of wildlife, including deer, black bears, moose, eagles, and more.

Vermilion Gorge is a leisurely 1½-mile hike that opens up alongside the Vermilion River Gorge, offering spectacular views of granite cliffs and rock outcrops. Kawishiwi Falls in Ely is another hidden gem — a short unpaved hike rewarded with a stunning 70-foot waterfall.

For the truly adventurous, Soudan Underground Mine State Park is a must. Take a tour that lowers you 2,341 feet into the earth, where you can ride the mine rails and discover its fascinating history.

Fun on the Fairways

Spend a day on the greens, choosing from several gorgeous and award-winning golf courses just a short drive from Ludlow's.

The Wilderness at Fortune Bay, only 30 minutes away, offers beautiful panoramas of Lake Vermilion and world-class golf. The Legend and The Quarry at Giant's Ridge are top-ranked courses with challenging play and stunning fairways.

If you have some newcomers in your group, Vermilion Fairways Golf Course is beginner-friendly and just 5 minutes from the resort.

Casino Nights at Fortune Bay

All our cabins come stocked with playing cards, poker chips, and a cribbage board — but if you're looking to up your game, Fortune Bay Casino is just a short drive from the island.

With 500 slot machines, blackjack, and a professional poker room, there's plenty to keep the night going.

Coffeetime Cabin

One of our favorite cabins for big groups, Coffeetime sits on the southern side of the island with five bedrooms, three bathrooms, two second-floor decks, and a screened-in porch on the main level.

It was recently renovated to expand the fully stocked kitchen and dining area, with an added second wood-burning fireplace and new hardwood floors.

Dreamcatcher Cabin

For a truly one-of-a-kind experience, Dreamcatcher is the cabin for you. This treehouse-like cabin rises four stories tall with a panoramic porch in the treetops.

Everyone can have their own space on each floor and come together on one of several decks. The second and fourth floors also feature whirlpool tubs for that extra touch of relaxation.
