A Ladies’ Fishing Getaway with Lund Boats at Ludlow’s

Between the stunning Northwoods scenery and Lake Vermilion’s reputation as an anglers’ paradise, it’s easy to see why outdoor enthusiasts keep coming back to Ludlow’s.

From fishing and boating to exploring everything the island has to offer, there’s no shortage of ways to enjoy the outdoors. And so, we were thrilled to welcome a few special guests who came to do just that.

Lund Boats and outdoor creators Renee Flatland, Susie Busta, and Sarah Kozlowski joined us on the island for a fun ladies’ fishing getaway, spending a few days on the water with fantastic fishing, plenty of laughs, and, of course, great company.

Settling Into Island Life

After the short ferry ride across the lake, the crew settled into their cabin and kicked off their Northwoods adventure.

The first evening included venison brats on the grill, homemade soup, a beautiful sunset, and some game planning around the campfire for the next morning’s fishing trip complete with s’mores.

Chasing Walleye on Lake Vermilion

Lake Vermilion is a premier fishing destination, home to walleye, northern pike, muskie, bass, crappie, and more. For this group, however, the target was a Minnesota classic: walleye.

The group headed out early with Ludlow’s fishing guide Nathan Lease @nathan__lease to chase walleye. Wind, rain, and a cold front made for challenging conditions, but the group kept fishing.

“We had wind. Rain. A big cold front. As for us?!” Renee said. “Even BIGGER smiles.”

Susie put it perfectly. “We could’ve stayed warm and dry… but where’s the fun in that? At least we chose the right boat for our bad decisions.”

Behind the Wheel of the Lund Tyee and Pro-V

The crew spent their days on the water in the new Lund Tyee and Pro-V models, getting plenty of time behind the wheel and putting them to the test in real fishing conditions.

“Boy are they nice,” shared Sarah. “Lund has so many great rigs to choose from and it was a blast to play with them and get more hands-on experience behind the console, trolling motor, and other features.”

Pizza, Walleye, and a Cruise Across the Lake

Despite the torrential rain and wind, the group caught plenty of walleye. When the weather finally eased, they enjoyed a pizza lunch on the boat, highly recommended, and had a chance to open up both Lund models for a cruise across Lake Vermilion.

“No shortage of fun was had the last three days at Ludlow’s,” shared Sarah. “Making memories, getting absolutely soaked and chasing whatever Lake Vermilion decides to give us.”
