ISLAND TIME
A private island getaway -- in the northwoods.

Mark and Sally Ludlow's island resort on Lake Vermilion between the BWCAW and Voyageurs National Park is well known to most Twin Citians as a unique sopt of repose and natural beauty. The many lodging choices range from historic knotty pine cabins to brand-new ones (one designed by noted Twin Cities architect Dale Mulfinger), but all have a warm, northwoods feel. Mark Ludlow continues to plow resources back into the property, improving amenities (hair dryers are now in every bathroom), replacing carpeting with wood floors, vinyl countertops and flooring with ceramic tile. The resort also has added an array of family activities, including guided hikes and Native American craftmaking sessions. A range of special events -- from family fishing instruction to gourmet cooking -- are on tap for spring and fall.
