Lake Vermilion, one of nature’s true gems, is located between the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and the Voyageur National Park. The area abounds with waterfowl and wildlife, has 40,000 acres of easily navigated waters, and countless bays to explore and experience. Ludlow’s is located in a boreal forest and Vermilion is a Canadian Shield lake with rugged rocky shorelines and towering pines.

Lake Vermilion is home to over 24 pairs of nesting bald eagles, many nesting Osprey and 284 loons. In fact, Vermilion has one of the largest loon populations in the United States. You can observe any of these species daily near the resort.

Hike our north shore trail or enjoy many others nearby. Travel to Vermilion Falls and the Gorge to watch water cascading through the rocky rapids. Take a Ludlow’s canoe on your car top and travel to a dozen nearby rivers for a leisurely or adventuresome canoe ride or arrange for a guided day canoe trip.

Within an hour, visit the Vince Schutte Bear Sanctuary, the only place in north America where you can view bears in the wild. The International Wolf Center allows you to get “up close and personal” with timberwolves.
